Jobs from the editor of BeadStyle magazine Cathy Jakicic Hip Handmade Memory Charms is one of the hottest publications from Kalmbach Books. Cathy says the idea for Memory Earrings came after she went to a scrapbook event with an associate of hers. Although there, focusing on a beading project, she commenced to realize how these 2 creative endeavors were equally. The scrapbooking group was fascinated by her task and how she designed and constructed it. The result is over twenty-five charms creations that are inspired by activities, divided into 4 categories: breakthrough, hobbies, vacations and remembrances. Yes, we all know the endless varieties of charm bracelets pictures in small frames on chains and keychains. But Cathy’s projects go far further than these common theme designs. Be sure you read the decoupage bracelet; who considered creating a way to remember wallpaper or paint. The handmade birth gem earrings was very personal and I liked these far more than pre-made, pre-formed standard pieces. Yes, the tiny memory book pendant was a lttle bit too trite to me, but other scrapbookers might love the concept. Creating beads from special newspaper, such as gift idea cover, or napkins from your baby shower was another neat idea others might like, but is not exactly my cup of tea. Cathy describes a reward bracelet—-I liked using this for myself, adding a bead for each and every POUND lost on my diet, and perhaps a slightly larger one for each and every 5 lbs. That is a prime example of how you may check out one of her designs and immediately see a new and ground breaking way to choose it into your own project.
Cathy described task management to commemorate a children’s recital…. while that failed to particularly appeal to myself, it did spark my own creativity, as I actually thought about how precisely I can take a program and make use of it to create a storage keepsake. I also like the pop culture task; I may have to work with this to create a design for my best friend, who is dedicated movie aficionado. I could use movie posters and create a special bracelet and diamond earrings, with a slightly large set for a pendant. I think this can also work for books or album/CD covers. Oh, most of us remember our grade college art work being exhibited on the refrigerator door (wonder what they at any time did before refrigerators? ). Cathy has a nice plan to co-op those into pendants.
We enjoyed the photobook/memory publication charm or bookmark task; there would be countless variations on just this project alone! An previously project showing how to personalize a sports tote or backpack could also be a variation within this theme. Her map bead project was also very original and could be used in many ways to commemorate a trip.
Cathy has different projects with photos, and a piece of fabric from your baby quilt or christening dress. Yet my fav was the one that created a keepsake recollection box with an autograph, quote or even haiku, if you wish. And, the infant blanket scrap is merely thrilling funny.
I thought the way she organized the book into 4 design ‘types” was great, since it allowed me personally to, at least, to think about the varieties of events that My spouse and i might love to commemorate from my own life. Seeing as an example, I have small dried flowers from my husband’s grandmother’s memorial that I decide to put between microscope slides and solder for pendants for my step daughter, sibling in law and mom in law. No, it isn’t the same as some of Cathy’s assignments, but it is a way to remember someone without being maudlin or dramatic. I feel that is one of the things the girl accomplishes with her jobs; giving us positive, unique ways to keep a special memory “alive. inches
